Bursary Details
The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) is calling for applications for its Film and Television Studies Bursary Programme. This initiative supports the growth of South Africa’s creative industry by funding students pursuing film or television qualifications at accredited local tertiary institutions.
Who Can Apply?
To qualify, applicants must:
– Be South African citizens
– Have completed and passed matric
– Be registered or provisionally registered for a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in film or television
– Have a strong academic record
– Demonstrate financial need
Compulsory Documents
Applicants must submit the following:
– A completed online application form
– Letter of acceptance or acknowledgement from a tertiary institution
– One-page motivation letter
– Certified copy of South African ID
– Certified matric certificate or most recent academic results
– Proof of financial assistance from other sources, if applicable
– Breakdown of total annual academic fees
– Proof of parents’ or guardian’s income (or your own if over 21)
– Relevant affidavits or death certificates if parents are deceased or absent
All certified documents must be dated within six months of submission.
Selection Criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on:
– Financial need (household income below R600 000 per year)
– Academic performance (minimum 60% average)
– Motivation for studying and career goals
– Demographics in line with NFVF transformation objectives
– Adherence to the NFVF’s developmental mandate
What Does the Bursary Cover?
Subject to available funds, the bursary may cover:
– Full tuition fees (official institutional quote required)
– Accommodation and meals (capped at R50 000 per year, for first-year students only)
– Educational resources such as textbooks, software or laptops (quotes required)
Note: Travel expenses and courses in acting, music, or performing arts are not covered.
Preference will be given to students at public universities or TVET colleges.
