Bursary Description

Meat Industry Trust (MIT) invites eligible South African students to submit applications for the Bursary Programme for the academic year 2024.

Bursary application closing date is 30 November 2023.

Bursary Coverage:

  • Field of Study: Postgraduate studies (Master’s or Doctorate degree)
  • Research Focus: Red Meat Species (Cattle, Sheep or Goats)
  • Areas of Study: Multiple fields related to the red meat industry
  • Bursary Value: R60,000 per annum
  • Payment Structure: Two instalments per year, over 2-3 years depending on degree pursued

Aim of the Bursary:

The MIT Bursary aims to advance scientific research in the South African red meat industry. It supports postgraduate students conducting research related to various aspects of red meat production, manufacturing, marketing, health, genetics, and socio-economic elements.

Criteria for Awarding the Bursary:

Candidates will be assessed based on three main criteria:

  1. Academic Record
  2. Quality of the Project Proposal
  3. Potential Contribution to the Red Meat Industry

Bursary Terms:

  • Bursary recipients are expected to submit annual reports during their studies and a final report upon completion.
  • Renewal is contingent on satisfactory academic performance and re-registration at the tertiary institution.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • South African citizenship is mandatory.
  • Applicants must be eligible for a Master’s or Doctorate degree in a relevant field of study.
  • Candidates must be enrolled full-time at a recognized South African tertiary institution.
  • Master’s degree applicants require a relevant Bachelor’s degree; Doctorate degree applicants must hold a Master’s degree.
  • Applicants must not be employed during the bursary period.

  2. Indicate “StudentRoom” as the source of the MIT bursary in the application.
  3. Submit the completed application along with required documents via email to tammy@agrilevy.co.za or deliver to the specified address.

Required Documents (Certified Copies):

  • ID document or Passport
  • Certified copies of all completed tertiary qualifications
  • Full academic record for each qualification related to the application (on university letterhead)
  • Proof of registration

Deadline:

Applications must reach the MIT Bursary Working Committee by 30 November 2023.

Ensure all necessary documents are provided as incomplete applications may be disqualified.
