Bursary Description

Scholarship Description:

The Matsumae International Foundation is a non-profit organization established in Japan in 1979, with the aim of promoting international goodwill through academic and cultural exchange. The foundation offers the Matsumae International Foundation Research Fellowship program, which is a unique opportunity for scholars from around the world to conduct research in Japan. The program is open to researchers in the natural sciences, engineering, and medicine, as well as those in the humanities and social sciences.

The Matsumae International Foundation Research Fellowship provides a grant of up to 300,000 yen per month for a period of 3-6 months, covering the costs of travel, accommodation, and research expenses in Japan. Fellows are also provided with access to research facilities and the opportunity to attend academic conferences and cultural events. The program aims to foster international collaboration and promote understanding between Japan and other countries, while also providing valuable research opportunities for scholars from diverse fields.

Degree Level:

FULLY FUNDED Matsumae International Foundation Scholarship 2023-24, Japan. is available to undertake Fellowship level programs at Japan Universities.

Available Subjects:

Following subject are available to study under this scholarship program.

  • Engineering
  • Natural Sciences
  • Medicine

Fields of research such as natural science, engineering, and medicine are given first priority.

Eligible Nationalities:

Open to international students of all nationalities.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants of non-Japanese nationality who meet all the following requirements are eligible to submit application documents.
● Applicants must obtain an invitation (acceptance) letter from a host institution in Japan prior to application.
● Applicants must hold Ph.D. (Doctoral degree).
● Applicants must be at the age of 49 years old or younger at the time of application.
● Applicants must have sufficient English or Japanese languages ability.
● Applicants should not have past or current experiences of staying in Japan (other than short-term stays such as for sightseeing or conferences)
● Applicants must have an occupation in their home countries, return there upon completing their fellowship tenure, and should contribute to development of their own country.
