Esri South Africa invites South African students to apply for Bursary Programme 2025.

Bursary Application Closing date is 31 January 2025.

Esri South Africa is offering bursaries for students wishing to pursue a Diploma in Geoinformation Science and Technology (GIS) at the Esri South Africa College in Midrand. This is a unique opportunity for students to gain academic knowledge and practical experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), while also potentially securing employment with Esri South Africa upon graduation.

Bursary Overview:

  • Number of Bursaries: 5
  • Coverage: Full cover for course fees, textbooks, and study materials for the entire duration of study.
  • Additional Support: While accommodation and travel costs are not covered, bursary recipients may also gain hands-on experience by working part-time at Esri South Africa, contributing to projects in areas such as database services, cartography, client solutions, and applications development.
  • Post-Graduation Opportunities: After completing the qualification, graduates may be offered employment at Esri South Africa and will be eligible to register as a GISc Technician with the South African Geomatics Council.

Course Details (Diploma in Geoinformation Science and Technology):

  • Duration: 2 years
  • Learning Structure: The programme combines theoretical learning with practical, hands-on experience. Students will undertake 36 course modules and learn to:
    • Acquire, edit, and analyze GIS data.
    • Share results as hardcopy maps or on the web.
    • Gain practical experience through distance learning, virtual practical sessions, and fieldwork.

Eligibility Requirements:

To apply for the Esri South Africa Bursary, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Matriculation:
    • You must have completed Matric in 2023 or 2024.
    • You must have achieved between 65% and 100% for Mathematics in Matric.
  2. Course of Study:
    • You must intend on studying for a Diploma in Geoinformation Science and Technology (GIS) at Esri South Africa College in Midrand.
  3. Location & Residency:
    • You must be willing and able to live in Gauteng for the full duration of your studies.
    • The course is conducted at Esri South Africa College, so you should be available to attend.
  4. Study Duration: You must be able to complete the diploma in 2 years.
  5. Skills and Attributes:
