Bursary Description

Scholarship Description:

The Erasmus Mundus initiative, a prominent project of the European Union, strives to elevate the quality of higher education by fostering scholarships and academic collaboration between Europe and the global community. Initially established as an independent endeavor spanning from 2004 to 2013, the Erasmus Mundus program evolved into an integral part of the EU’s comprehensive education, training, youth, and sports initiative, known as Erasmus+, from 2014 onwards.
The primary focus of Erasmus Mundus is to provide robust support for exceptional joint programs at the postgraduate level, enriching the visibility and attractiveness of European higher education. The program offers full-time scholarships to outstanding students across the world who have been selected for participation in Erasmus Mundus joint programs. These encompass the Erasmus Mundus Master Course (EMMC), the Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate (EMJD), and, since 2014, the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) within the Erasmus+ framework.

An Erasmus Mundus joint program entails a high-quality Master’s or Doctorate curriculum collaboratively offered by higher education institutions representing a minimum of three distinct Program Countries*. These programs possess an international orientation, integrative structure, and often span interdisciplinary domains.
The duration of an Erasmus Mundus joint program varies, ranging from 1 to 2 years for Master’s degrees and 3 to 4 years for Doctorates. Students are required to study in at least two of the Program Countries included in the consortium. Furthermore, participants have the opportunity to spend a semester studying in a Partner Country (any country globally) if the program incorporates a partnering university from that nation. Internship prospects within corporate and research environments are also available.

Upon successful completion of an Erasmus Mundus joint program, graduates earn double, multiple, or joint degrees. A double or multiple degree denotes that the diploma is conferred separately by two or more participating higher education institutions. In contrast, a joint degree signifies a single diploma issued collaboratively by a minimum of two of the participating HEIs engaged in an Erasmus Mundus joint program.
