The agency-nominated Master’s program is one of the three Master’s programs provided by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission.

The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK (CSC) administers the UK government scholarship program focused on international development goals. It operates within the framework of the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) and serves as a tangible representation of the UK’s ongoing commitment to the Commonwealth. By attracting individuals with exceptional talents and potential from diverse backgrounds and supporting them in becoming future leaders and innovators upon their return to their home countries, the CSC’s efforts blend sustainable development with the UK’s national interests. Objective: Financed by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships provide a pathway for gifted and driven individuals to acquire the knowledge and expertise necessary for sustainable development, especially targeting those who would not have the means to pursue studies in the UK.

Intended Recipients: Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships are designated for candidates hailing from qualifying low and middle-income Commonwealth nations, allowing them to engage in full-time taught Master’s programs at UK universities.

Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship 2024/25, Study in UK. is available to undertake Masters level programs at UK Universities.

Scholarship Benefits:

Each scholarship includes the following benefits:

  1. Approved airfare from the Scholar’s home country to the UK and return at the conclusion of the award. (Please note that the CSC will not reimburse the travel costs for dependents or journeys undertaken before the award confirmation).

  2. Approved tuition fees: The CSC has an agreement with the UK university to cover full tuition fees, and Scholars are not responsible for any part of the tuition fee.

  3. Stipend (living allowance) provided at the rate of £1,347 per month. For Scholars studying at universities in the London metropolitan area, the stipend is £1,652 per month (current rates).

  4. Warm clothing allowance, if applicable.

  5. Study travel grant to assist with study-related travel expenses within the UK or abroad.

  6. In the case of a Scholar who is widowed, divorced, or a single parent with children living with them at the same UK address, a child allowance of £576.61 per month for the first child and £143 per month for the second and third child under the age of 16.

  7. For Scholars with disabilities, the CSC offers a comprehensive assessment of their needs and eligibility for additional financial support.

It’s important to note that the CSC’s family allowances are intended to provide partial assistance toward the expenses of supporting a Scholar’s family in the UK. The actual costs are likely to be higher, and Scholars must be prepared to supplement these allowances to meet the needs of any accompanying family members during their stay in the UK.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for these scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. Hold citizenship in an eligible Commonwealth country or have been granted refugee status by one, or be classified as a British Protected Person.

2. Maintain permanent residence in an eligible Commonwealth nation.

3. Be prepared to commence academic studies in the UK at the beginning of the UK academic year in September 2024.

4. By September 2024, possess a first degree that meets at least an upper second-class (2:1) honours standard. Alternatively, applicants may hold a lower second-class degree along with a relevant postgraduate qualification, typically a Master’s degree. It’s important to note that the CSC typically does not fund a second Master’s degree. If applying for a second Master’s degree, applicants must provide a rationale for their choice.

5. Demonstrate financial need, indicating that they would be unable to pursue studies in the UK without this scholarship.

6. Provide all required supporting documentation in the specified format.

Additionally, the CSC recognizes that disabled individuals may have faced unique challenges or obstacles in their educational journeys, which may have hindered them from meeting the academic requirements for a Commonwealth Scholarship. Disabled applicants who can showcase their potential to contribute to international development but do not hold a 2:1 Undergraduate degree may be considered for a contextualized nomination through the Commonwealth Disabled People’s Forum nominator. It’s important to note that there is no age limit for CSC applications. Applicants are advised to consult with their employers to determine if there are any age-related restrictions on their leave entitlement.

Application Procedure:

Commonwealth Master’s scholarship applications for the academic year 2024/25 are currently open. The deadline for submitting applications is 17:00 hours BST (16:00 GMT) on October 17, 2023. These scholarships are intended for studies in the UK, commencing in September/October 2024.

To apply to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC), applicants must use the CSC’s online application system. Please note that the CSC cannot accept any applications or documents submitted through other means.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to complete and submit their applications well in advance, as the online application system tends to experience high traffic in the days leading up to the deadline.

In addition to applying to the CSC, applicants must also apply through a nominating agency. There are two types of nominating agencies for Master’s scholarships:

1. National nominating agencies, which are the primary application route.

2. Selected non-governmental organizations and charitable bodies.

Nominating agencies are responsible for proposing scholarship candidates to the CSC. Direct applications to the CSC for these scholarships are not accepted. Each nominating agency has its own selection process and may impose additional eligibility criteria. Therefore, applicants should verify the specific guidance, application rules, and eligibility criteria with the nominating agency.

Nominating agencies may establish their own application deadlines. These agencies will nominate scholarship candidates to the CSC by December 2023.

Applicants can expect to receive notification of the outcome by July 2024. It’s crucial for applicants to monitor all folders in their email accounts, including junk mail and spam folders, as scholarship offers may be rescinded if candidates fail to respond within a specified timeframe after being contacted by email.
