Bursary Description

The Citrus Academy is inviting students to apply for their Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year.

Bursary Application Closing Date: 15 September 2025

The bursary is aimed at students pursuing studies in agriculture and citrus-related fields, and is open to citizens of South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Swaziland.


Fields of Study Covered

Bursaries will be awarded for studies in the following fields:

  • Agriculture
  • Agricultural Economics
  • Agricultural Management
  • Entomology
  • Horticulture
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Plant Pathology
  • Plant Production
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Microbiology
  • Soil Science

Bursary Coverage and Conditions

The Citrus Academy Bursary provides partial funding for:

  • Tuition fees
  • Prescribed books and stationery
  • Accommodation and meals
  • Research costs (postgraduate only)
  • Other study-related expenses

Successful applicants must sign a Bursary Agreement, adhere to the Code of Conduct, and commit to a work-back service in the citrus industry after graduation—1 year of work for every 1 year of funding received.


Eligibility Criteria

To apply, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of South Africa, Zimbabwe, or Swaziland
  • Have completed Matric
  • Be studying full-time or part-time toward a citrus-related qualification
  • Be entering 2nd year or above in 2026
  • Be registered at a recognised South African tertiary institution
  • Have an interest in working in the citrus industry
  • Meet the Citrus Academy Bursary Agreement requirements

Preference will be given to:

  • Previously disadvantaged individuals
  • Female students
  • Students living with disabilities
  • Students with a background in the citrus industry

  • Certified copy of ID (or passport if Zimbabwean or Swazi citizen)
  • Certified secondary education results
  • Latest certified tertiary academic record
  • 500-word motivational essay
  • Proposed research details (postgraduate only)

Selection Process

  • Applications are scored using a weighted scoring system
  • Postgraduate applications are reviewed by experts
  • Top candidates are shortlisted and funding is secured
  • Successful applicants will be notified by mid-December 2025
