ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER – UJ AND W&RSETA

The UJ Department of Marketing Management is part of the Universities College of Business and Economics – one of 8 faculties at the institution. The UJ Department of Marketing Management offers a range of undergraduate degrees and diplomas, postgraduate degrees and short courses, in the field of Marketing and Retail.

The Wholesale and Retail Sector Education and Training Authority (W&RSETA) is a public organisation, formed to encourage skill development in the Wholesale and Retail sector by way of grants, bursaries, training and learnerships.

W&RSETA is one of the UJ Marketing Sponsors, alongside other companies including: Clover, PPS, Juta, Primedia and Van Schaik.

ABOUT THE UJ W&RSETA BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

The University of Johannesburg, partnered with the W&RSETA is inviting students to apply for bursary funding, for the 2024 academic year.

The bursary will cover Master’s and PhD studies at the University of Johannesburg, preferably within these research areas:

  • Retail Business Management
  • Retail Marketing
  • Wholesale and Retail
  • Wholesale Business Development
  • .

MORE ABOUT THE UJ W&RSETA BURSARY PROGRAMME – EXPENSES COVERED

The bursary will provide full cover for annual study fees, as well as data collection and language editing.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE UJ W&RSETA BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen or a permanent resident in South Africa
  • You must be enrolled or intend to pursue studies towards a Master’s or PhD qualification, within one of the fields of study listed above
  • You must be registered to study at the University of Johannesburg
  • Master’s degree applicants: you must have completed an Honours degree in Marketing or Retailing with a minimum of 60% for Research Methodology on NQF level 8 and an overall degree average of 60% or higher
  • Ph.D. degree applicants: you must have completed a Master’s degree in the subject field of Marketing or Retailing with a minimum of 65% for your Master’s AND a minimum of 60% for Research Methodology on NQF level 8
  • You must have an approved Master’s or Ph.D. proposal with a focus on the preference areas above
  • You must be passionate about Retail

New Enrolments:

  • Applications must be submitted online via the University of Johannesburg’s Department of Marketing Management website: W&RSETA UJ Bursary Application.
  • Applicants must follow the full application procedure and submit the required documents before the closing date.
  • If the Department Research and Ethics Committee (DREC) approves your proposal, please email: wrseta@uj.ac.za – they will then contact you with a list of supporting documents required to complete your application.
  • Enter “www.zabursaries.co.za” in the field asking how you heard about the W&RSETA UJ Bursary.

Current Master’s and PhD students:

  • Download and complete the W&RSETA UJ Bursary Application Form (.pdf)
  • Submit your completed application form, along with the list of supporting documents in point 5, via email to: wrseta@uj.ac.za (with the following in the email subject line “WRSETA Postgraduate Bursary Application – Your Full Name”.)

31 October 2024 (new M & D Enrolments).
