Job Description

Bergrivier Municipality is offering student bursary opportunities for the 2025/2026 academic year to South African citizens who are permanently resident within the Bergrivier municipal area. The bursary programme aims to support skills development and enable students to obtain qualifications at accredited tertiary institutions.

Bursary Application Closing Date: Friday, 29 August 2025 at 15:00
Location: Bergrivier Municipality, Western Cape, South Africa

Bursary Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Reside in the Bergrivier municipal area
  • Be South African citizens with a valid South African ID
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 35 (preference given, but other ages not excluded)
  • Meet the entry requirements of their chosen institution and have proof of registration or acceptance
  • Be studying towards their first degree or national diploma at an accredited South African academic institution
  • Have parents or legal guardians with a combined monthly income of less than the GAP housing threshold (preference given)

What the Bursary Covers

Bursaries may be used to cover study fees only, which could include:

  • Registration fees
  • Class fees
  • Examination fees
  • Books and study material
  • Accommodation fees

Note: Bursary funds will be paid directly to the relevant academic institution.


Required Documents

Applicants must submit:

  • Prescribed bursary application form (available at www.bergmun.org.za or at Bergrivier municipal offices)
  • Student’s academic record (Grade 12 or latest tertiary results)
  • Certified copy of South African ID document
  • Proof of permanent residential address (municipal account)
  • Parent/guardian ID documents
  • Proof of monthly household income (salary/pension slips or affidavit if unemployed)
  • Proof of acceptance/registration at a university or tertiary institution and the actual cost of fees for the year
