Scholarship Description:
Are you a citizen of one of the ARES partner countries? Do you possess a higher education qualification? Are you interested in enhancing your expertise in a field related to development and have professional experience?
The ARES scholarships provide you with the chance to pursue either a one-year advanced bachelor’s or master’s degree program or a shorter-term continuing education course lasting from 2 to 6 months at a higher education institution in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation in Belgium.
Which training options are accessible?
Under the ARES 2022-2027 collaborative initiative, international training scholarships encompass three categories of training:
Advanced Bachelor’s and Master’s Programs: These are inter-institutional training courses conducted over a single academic year, culminating in the conferral of an academic degree.
Continuing Education Programs: These are more pragmatic and shorter-term, ranging from 2 to 6 months in duration, and result in the issuance of a certificate upon completion.
Degree Level:
Belgium Government ARES Scholarship 2024-25. (Fully Funded) is available to undertake Bachelor, Masters level programs at Belgium Universities.

Advanced Bachelor’s Programs:
Continuing Education Programs:
- Formation continue en science des données pour la santé mondiale
- Formation continue en pédagogie universitaire numérique
- Certificat interuniversitaire et interdisciplinaire en justices transitionnelles
- Formation continue – Comprendre et gérer les dimensions humaines des projets de changement en développement durable
- Formations continues en assurance qualité et contrôle en qualité des médicaments et produits de santé
- Formation continue en système d’information géographique libre
Scholarship Benefits:
Expenses for Travel Abroad:
- Proof of expenditure is required.
- Economy-class airfare on an IATA-approved airline, with a limit of one round-trip ticket per academic year.
Financial Support for Living Expenses:
- A fixed amount provided as a lump sum.
- Covers a 12-month period (+13th month with reduced support).
Additional Expenses Associated with Visa Applications:
- When the cost exceeds 200 €, reimbursement will be based on actual expenses, to be reported.
Registration Fees:
- Fees will be reimbursed at the current rate applicable to DGD scholars.
Insurance Costs:
- These costs are directly covered by ARES.
Eligible Nationalities:
This scholarship is open to international students and residents from Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Haiti, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Mozambique, Nepal, Niger, Peru, Philippines, Republic of Guinea (Conakry), Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Vietnam and Zimbabwe
Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for the Belgium Government ARES Scholarship, applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Be aged below 40 for degree programs and below 45 for training courses at the commencement of the training.
- Hold citizenship in one of the countries mentioned above.
- The program duration is one academic year.
- Possess an academic background relevant to the chosen field of study.
- Proficiency in English (reading) is necessary.

Necessary Documents:
- Two letters of recommendation (academic and/or professional).
- Authenticated copies of the original diplomas.
- Authenticated copies of transcripts for all academic years.
- Evidence of employment history for the past 5 years.
- Proof of nationality via a nationality certificate or a passport copy.
- Pre-project document (required for specific courses, as indicated in the course-specific admission conditions).
Applying for an ARES scholarship is completely free. ARES does not charge any fees at any stage of the application or selection process. You may inform us via e-mail at [email protected] of any problems with individuals or companies claiming to represent ARES and request any payment.
HOW DO I SUBMIT A GRANT APPLICATION?

Your application should be submitted to ARES via the GIRAF platform:

- You must first ensure that you have an active GIRAF account.
- You can create an account on the GIRAF platform via this link. This account will be validated (within a few hours to a few days, don’t create more than one account) by ARES and you will receive a confirmation mail to create a password.
- If you created a validated account last year, you can reuse that account and if necessary reset your password.
- Once logged into your GIRAF account, you can access the application form via the Competitive calls tab of your GIRAF profile. Please note that you must only click once on the “International training application 2024-2025” button. You will then find your form in the My tasks table of the Competitive calls.
- You can complete your form several times, as long as you use the “Save and edit later” option. You will find your form each time in the My Tasks table of the Competitive calls tab in GIRAF.
- As soon as you click on “Submit my application”, your application is sent to ARES and you can no longer modify it. You can still consult it in the My submitted files table.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS
Applications must be submitted via GIRAF by 17 November 2023 at 12pm (Belgian time, UTC+1) at the latest. Applications submitted after this date will not be considered.
All successful and reserve candidates will receive an email at the end of the selection process (June 2024). Unsuccessful candidates will receive an e-mail by the end of June 2024 at the latest. No communication other than that mentionned above will be made to applicants.
