Bursary Description

NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C. — The BC Construction Safety Alliance’s (BCCSA) new bursary program will offer up to $60,000 this year through multiple bursaries as a way to support workers and students pursuing post-secondary education in construction safety, occupational health and safety or related fields.

“Our bursary program aims to build a safer, stronger workforce across B.C.’s construction industry by reducing financial barriers and encouraging leadership, innovation and professional development in safety,” says Mike McKenna, executive director of the BCCSA, in a statement.

Bursary applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents currently living in B.C. who will reside in the province during their studies. Applications are open to current students, new students or workers in the B.C. construction industry who are pursuing safety-related higher education.

“We urge applicants to submit their applications as soon as possible,” McKenna says. “Successful applicants will receive from $1,000 to $2,500 per bursary. We’ll be notifying the successful applicants on August 28 so we can assist them financially, on proof of enrolment and tuition payment, as soon as Sept. 2, 2025.”

Recipients of the BCCSA bursary may be invited to BCCSA events, featured in marketing, or offered mentorship opportunities aligned with internships or future roles in construction safety, the release notes.

Applications close on Aug. 20. They should include a short essay or video on career goals and interest in construction safety, financial need and academic transcripts or reference letters.
