Applications Open for the DSTI-CSIR Inter-Programme Bursary Scheme for 2026. The Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) has launched its inter-programme postgraduate bursary scheme to develop capacity in strategic areas. The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) supports this initiative for full-time postgraduate studies at South African public universities.
Focus Areas for the Bursary Support Restricted to the Following Research Areas:
- Mining
- Modelling and Digital Sciences
- Microsystems Technology
- Titanium (Manufacturing Elements)
- Photonics
- Biotechnology (Biopharming, Bioprocessing or Biocatalysis)
- Information and Communications Technology
- IKS (Indigenous Knowledge Systems)
- Health
NB
Preference will be given to those whose study areas are aligned with the above-mentioned priority research areas.
Value of the Bursary Per Annum
- Honours: R 130 000
- Master’s: R 140 000
- PhD: R 160 000
