Tell Me About The LC Peace, Security and Development Fellowships and Associate Fellowships:
The African Leadership Centre (ALC) offers three fellowships for the academic year 2025/2026, including Fellowships for African Scholars in Peace, Security, and Development, Associate Fellowships Bursaries for African Students, and Bursaries for Associate Fellowships in Global Leadership and Peacebuilding for the Global South. These fellowships are designed to provide young professionals and students with the opportunity to advance their careers in leadership, security, and development through academic learning, mentorship, research, and policy analysis. They aim to foster a new peace, security, and development agenda for Africa and the Global South. Fellows will receive funding for tuition and living expenses and will be provided with tailored mentorship, academic training, and practical experience in renowned institutions.

The eligibility criteria is as follows:
Fellowships for African Scholars in Peace, Security, and Development:
- Young African scholars affiliated with academic or research institutions in Africa
- Committed to advancing academic and policy knowledge in peace, security, and development
- Passionate about shaping security discourses and practices in Africa and beyond
- Applicants must be under 35 years old, with a demonstrated interest in the fields of leadership, security, and development
Associate Fellowships Bursaries for African Students in Peace, Security, and Development:
- African students applying for the MSc Global Leadership and Peacebuilding at King’s College London
- Must be pursuing full-time studies
- Committed to a career in leadership, security, and development
Bursaries for Associate Fellowships in Global Leadership and Peacebuilding for the Global South:
- Students from the Global South applying for the MSc Global Leadership and Peacebuilding at King’s College London
- Must be pursuing full-time studies
- Commitment to leadership, security, and development
How are Applicants Selected?
- Applicants will be selected based on their alignment with ALC’s values, academic achievements, commitment to leadership, security, and development, and their potential to contribute to new peace, security, and development agendas for Africa and the Global South.
- Applicants must demonstrate a need for academic training, mentorship, and research in their respective fields.

Additionally. The benefits include:
- Full funding for tuition and living expenses (for African Scholars and Associate Fellows)
- Mentorship and networking opportunities with distinguished African experts in peace, security, and development
- Academic training, research skills, and policy analysis
- Option for a paid attachment to African or international institutions after completion
- Certification upon completing the program
- A contribution to living expenses for bursary recipients
How Long Will the Award Last?
The fellowship program lasts for 18 months, which includes a 6-month attachment at an African university or institution after the completion of academic studies.
The Associate Fellowships Bursaries last for the duration of the MSc Global Leadership and Peacebuilding program (typically one year).
How to Apply:
- Applicants need to apply on the King’s College London website and select the Peace & Security Fellowship.
- Additionally, applicants must submit a separate application through the ALC-Nairobi portal for the fellowship program.
- Both applications (King’s and ALC-Nairobi portals) must be completed for full consideration.
