Scholarship Description:

The MCW Young Leaders Fellowship for 2024 is an international exchange program hosted in the United States, designed for young individuals worldwide. This program offers a valuable leadership opportunity to people aged 18 to 26, irrespective of their backgrounds. It primarily focuses on developing management and leadership skills essential for addressing issues related to education, health, and economic security.

The MCW Young Leaders Fellowship spans a year, with a significant portion involving a 10-day visit to New York, USA in July 2024. Importantly, there are no language proficiency requirements such as IELTS or TOEFL.

This fellowship is open to Bachelor, Master, and PhD students and encourages participants to conceive innovative ideas for community improvement. More detailed information is provided below.

Commencement of the MCW Young Leaders Fellowship Program:

  1. One-Month Virtual Assessment: The program kicks off with an intensive phase of community mapping and needs assessment. Young leaders will be equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge to evaluate their communities.

  2. In-Person Component in the USA (10 days): Young Leaders will journey to the United States in July 2024 for a 10-day experience. Participants should arrive with a specific community issue they aim to address during the fellowship.

  3. Virtual Project Implementation: Upon returning from the United States, participants will put their ideas into action and execute them in their respective communities.

Location of the Young Leaders Fellowship in the USA: The 2024 Young Leaders Fellowship will be hosted in New York, New York, and Burlington, Vermont, during the period from July 9 to July 18, 2024.

2024 MCW YOUNG LEADERS FELLOWSHIP, USA. is available to undertake Fellowship level programs at USA Universities.

Available Subjects:

Scholarship Benefits:

  • International participants: Airfare tickets for international travel
  • United States participants: Domestic economy flights
  • Accommodations: Provided from the evening of July 8 to July 18, 2024
  • Meals: Three meals per day from July 9 to July 18, 2024
  • Travel: Round trip from New York, New York, to Burlington, Vermont
  • Transportation: Public transportation to/from JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark Airports
  • Accommodations: Provided by New York University in New York and Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont

This fellowship is open to international students of all nationalities.

Eligibility Criteria:

Am I Eligible?

Young Leaders Must:

  • Demonstrate commitment to their community;
  • Identify an issue in their community in the areas of education, health, or economic security;
  • Be between the ages of 18-26 at the start of the program (June 1, 2024);
  • Be fluent in written and spoken English;
  • Commit to doing the Community Needs Assessment in June, attending the 10-day in-person program in July, and spending the following year aiming to execute their community project;
  • Have access to email and the internet to allow for consistent communication with the MCW Global Team and Young Leaders Fellowship alumni-mentor for the duration of the year-long program;
  • Adhere to Young Leaders Fellowship graduation guidelines (to be provided upon acceptance to the program);
  • Be eligible for appropriate visa and travel documentation;
  • Submit a completed application on or before Sunday, November 12, 2023, 11:59 PM (NYC EST time).

  • The application must be filled out in English.
  • Letters of recommendation and resumes also need to be written in English. Any part of the application that is not written in English will not be read and be considered incomplete.
  • The application includes:

    2. Essay Questions
      • Identify an issue in your community that concerns you. How would you address this issue?
      • Describe one time you have faced a challenge and used a leadership skill to come up with a solution.
    3. Resume
      • Your resume should not be more than 1 page. We suggest that it be prepared in Times New Roman, 12 font, with 1-inch margins.
    4. Two Letters of recommendation
      • Your letters should come from people who know your work ethic and commitment to your community. Friends and family members are discouraged from writing letters of recommendation.
      • Recommenders should state their name, position, contact info, and relationship to the applicant at the top of the letter.
