Facilitator II: Professional Support (P8) (Academic Development & Support: Academic Development Centre) (5 Year Fixed-Term)
Are you an experienced academic professional with a passion for student development and curriculum innovation? The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is looking for a dedicated Facilitator II to join its Academic Development Centre (ADC) at the Doornfontein Campus. This is a 5-year fixed-term contract role where you will play a crucial part in shaping the success of extended curriculum programme students.

About the Academic Development Centre (ADC)
The Academic Development Centre (ADC) provides essential theoretical and practical interventions for both academic staff and students. It comprises Access Programmes and Academic Development and Innovation, offering integrated and relevant growth opportunities across all UJ campuses. ADC: Access specifically delivers extended curriculum programmes (ECPs) for various faculties, focusing on building strong foundational knowledge for students in these programmes.
Your Role as Facilitator II: Professional Support
As a Facilitator II, you will be instrumental in the Professional Support portfolio within the ADC. Your main responsibilities will include:
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, teach, lecture, facilitate, coordinate, and assess Management Modules for extended Diplomas across the College of Business and Economics, Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, and Humanities faculty.
- Ensure the efficient operation of the Management portfolio, including managing lecturers, teaching, learning activities, and resources.
- Oversee the development and effective delivery of modules within the portfolio and foundational provisioning.
- Identify student learning difficulties and design intervention strategies with other coordinators.
- Actively participate in and contribute to Academic Development initiatives within the ADC.
- Assist with the implementation of new Extended Curriculum Programmes (ECPs).
- Liaise with relevant departments regarding extended Management/Humanities foundational provision modules in ECPs.
- Support funding applications and reporting to the Department of Higher Education and Training.
- Take on management and administrative duties related to the ECPs.
- Perform any other related duties as required by the Head of Department.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this vital role, you should meet the following criteria:
- A Master’s degree in a Business-related field, OR an MBA in a related field.
- A teaching qualification OR a minimum of two years’ experience teaching in a Senior Secondary School context.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ lecturing experience in an academic development/Extended Curriculum Programme in higher education.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in people management.
- A good understanding of the challenges within the South African schooling system.
- Experience in developing learner materials.
- Working knowledge of effective teaching, assessment, and classroom pedagogy for under-prepared students.
- Advanced computer literacy and proficiency with the MS Office package.
