Job Description
As an Associate Professor, you will play a crucial role in supporting the University’s academic programmes. Your duties will encompass a full range of academic responsibilities, including teaching, postgraduate supervision, and active research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach, supervise, and assess students, preparing study materials and offering consultations.
- Supervise Honours, Master’s, and Doctoral level postgraduate students.
- Engage in productive research and publications to advance personal knowledge in the field.
- Demonstrate excellence in research output and postgraduate supervision.
- Contribute to the administration and management of the Department, School, or College.
- Invigilate during University examinations and assessments.
- Ensure students comply with University Rules and Regulations.
- Participate in official University gatherings and nominated committees.
- Attend official meetings of the Department, School, and College.
- Perform any reasonable duties requested by the Head of Department, School Director, or Executive Dean.
- Participate in University-linked community development projects and/or act as a public intellectual where appropriate.
- Engage with industry partners and organisations.
- Collaborate with other universities and research institutions within South Africa and internationally.
Minimum Requirements
- A relevant Doctoral degree (NQF 10) in Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- A proven track record of research and supervision at both Master’s and Doctoral levels.
- Demonstrable industry experience.
- A proven record of generating revenue.
- Excellent teaching skills and deep knowledge in Information Systems or related fields.
- A strong research track record with publications in reputable journals and conference proceedings.
- Evidence of teaching and learning excellence at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Recognition as an established discipline-based leader or expert.
Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in academic English.
- Strong time management, planning, and organisational skills.
- Good interpersonal and listening skills.
- Effective conflict management skills.
- Ability to monitor and coach student performance, providing objective and professional feedback.
Recommendations:
- Knowledge and experience in online learning environments.
- Experience in managing large research projects.
- An NRF rating (or equivalent), or the potential to obtain one within three to five years.
- A successful track record in research fundraising.
- Evidence of sourcing external research funding.
