SCHOLARSHIPS
Application Channels:
- Incoming international graduate students have two scholarship application channels: through SJTU or Chinese Embassies/Consulates. Choose only one channel; multiple applications are not allowed.
How to Apply for Scholarships:
1. Apply through SJTU:
- Doctoral program scholarships include SJTU Fellowship, CSC/SGS Scholarship, and SJTU Scholarship. Master’s program scholarships include CSC/SGS Scholarship, SJTU Scholarship, and School/College Scholarship. Apply at http://apply.sjtu.edu.cn/ and select “apply for scholarship through SJTU.” Complete the application within the specified timeframe for timely admission and scholarship consideration. If not recommended for CSC Scholarship, you’ll be assessed for the SGS Scholarship or SJTU Scholarship.
2. Apply through Chinese Embassies/Consulates:
- Applicants can also apply for scholarships through Chinese Embassies/Consulates in their home country. Application schedules vary (usually from November to April). Contact your local Chinese Embassy/Consulate for details on eligibility, procedures, and required documents. Find contact information on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website (http://www.fmprc.gov.cn/mfa_eng/).
Note: Applicants applying through Chinese Embassy/Consulates must also follow the application process specified in the 2024 SJTU International Graduate Admission guidelines.
Eligible Nationalities:
This scholarship is open to international students of all nationalities.
Eligibility Criteria:
The following are general requirements for application to SJTU International Graduate Programs.
1. Non-Chinese citizen.
2. Good health both physically and mentally.
3. Outstanding academic performance and potential.
4. Bachelor’s degree for master program applicants. Master’s degree for doctoral program applicants.
5. Proficiency in Chinese and/or English. For details please refer to Language Requirement for SJTU International Graduate Programs.
Application Procedure:
Step 1: Complete the Online Application
- Visit Study@SJTU (http://isc.sjtu.edu.cn/) and submit your online application before the deadline. If you’re applying for a scholarship, ensure you meet the scholarship deadline.
Step 2: Pay the Application Fee
- The non-refundable and non-transferable application fee is RMB 800 (approximately USD 120). You can pay in RMB or USD using online payment or bank transfer via the online application system.
MATERIALS TO PREPARE
Degree Certificates: Scanned copies of your degree certificates. If you haven’t graduated yet, provide an official letter from your current university stating your expected graduation date.
Transcripts: Scanned copies of transcripts. Master’s program applicants should submit undergraduate transcripts, and doctoral program applicants should submit both undergraduate and graduate transcripts.

Personal Statement and Study Plan
Two Letters of Academic Recommendation: From scholars who are associate professors or above, or senior professionals in a related academic field. Follow the online system’s instructions for submission or upload the recommendation letters with original signatures.
Acceptance Letter: Required if applying to programs in the School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology or School of Mechanical Engineering. Contact the supervisor in advance and provide their acceptance letter.
Note: If your documents are not in English or Chinese, have them translated by an authorized translation agency. Upload both the translated and original documents to the application system.
