About the Department

The Department of Dietetics and Nutrition at UWC is well-regarded for its leading educational programs in undergraduate Dietetics and postgraduate Nutrition.

Your Role and Key Responsibilities

As a Lecturer, you will play a crucial role in educating and mentoring students. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering teaching and facilitating learning at an undergraduate level.
  • Providing teaching and supervision to postgraduate students.
  • Participating in general clinical supervision.
  • Supervising final year research projects.
  • Contributing to research programs, curriculum development, and staff development initiatives.
  • Building and fostering partnerships with government and academic institutions.
  • Engaging with communities through relevant activities.
  • Performing administrative duties within your department, faculty, and the university.

Minimum Requirements

To be eligible for this position, you must meet the following criteria:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics.
  • A Master’s degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Current and valid registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Dietitian (Independent Practice Category). A copy of this registration is mandatory for your application.
  • Proven experience in undergraduate teaching and/or clinical supervision.
  • Evidence of research output, demonstrated by at least one research publication in an accredited journal.

Added Advantages

Candidates with the following qualifications or experience will be given preference:

  • Current registration for a PhD or active progress towards completing a PhD.
  • Proficiency in two or more official South African languages.
  • Experience in research supervision.
  • Experience in community nutrition or public health nutrition.
  • A valid driver’s licence.
  • Demonstrated contextual sensitivity and active community engagement.
