

Lecturer – School of Accountancy (1-year Contract)
Are you a qualified Accountancy professional with a passion for teaching? The University of the Free State (UFS) is looking for a dedicated Lecturer to join its esteemed School of Accountancy. This is a temporary, one-year contract position based at the Bloemfontein Campus, with duties commencing on 01 January 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job Overview
As a Lecturer, you will be responsible for teaching, coordinating, and assessing various Accountancy modules at the undergraduate level. Your contributions will extend to curriculum development, advancing modern pedagogical practices, and fulfilling essential administrative duties within the School.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging lectures and coordinate undergraduate modules in Organisational Ethics and Citizenship, Auditing, and Accounting Information Systems.
- Actively contribute to developing students’ digital acumen and other relevant graduate attributes essential for professional success.
- Participate in curriculum development and innovation to ensure module offerings meet the latest requirements of professional accountancy bodies (e.g., SAICA’s AGA and CA of the Future Competency Framework) and adapt to the changing demands of the professional world.
- Help advance pedagogical practices within the School of Accountancy to enhance learning outcomes.
- Undertake administrative duties as required by the School.
Essential Requirements (Non-Negotiable)
To be considered for this vital role, you must meet the following inherent requirements:
- A Master’s degree (NQF Level 9) in Accountancy.
- OR hold a Chartered Accountant (SA) designation with a relevant NQF Level 8 qualification in Accountancy.
- A strong academic record (please ensure a copy of your academic record is attached to your application).
Recommendations (Advantageous Skills & Experience)
Candidates possessing the following will have a distinct advantage:
- Demonstrated practical experience in the field of Accountancy.
- Recent and relevant lecturing experience at an institution of higher learning.
- Proficiency in using Xero accounting software.
- Proven experience in delivering poster or oral presentations at academic conferences or equivalent activities.
- A track record of research, evidenced by relevant publications in nationally accredited journals.
- Membership or registration with a professional body (please attach proof).
- Membership of a national or international scholarly society or committee.
