- You must be a South African citizen.
- You need to be registered at an endorsed South African school.
- You should be in or applying for Grade 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12 for the 2026 academic year.
- Maintain a minimum overall academic average of 60%. Keep those grades up!
- Your total household income should be less than R550,000 per year.
- You must complete the online application form fully and upload ALL the required supporting documents. Don’t skip anything!
Required Application Documents:

Letters of Motivation:
- A heartfelt letter from your parents/guardians, explaining why they believe you deserve this scholarship.
- A compelling letter from YOU (about 2 pages) telling SANRAL all about yourself, your dreams, and why this scholarship means the world to you.
- A supportive letter from your school, vouching for your character and academic potential.
Certified Copies (make sure they’re certified and not older than 3 months where specified!):
- Your latest June academic results.
- Your ID document or birth certificate.
- ID documents of your parents/legal guardian.
- Proof of your total household income (this must be current, not older than 3 months).
- Additional documents (only if applicable):
- If you’ve lost a parent(s), their death certificate(s) or a letter from Social Services if you are orphaned.
- Proof of sibling registration at a tertiary institution (if any of your siblings are studying at university or college).
- A divorce decree (if your parents are divorced).
- A marriage certificate (if applicable for parents or applicant).
- An affidavit for single parents (obtainable from Home Affairs).
- Proof of employment, unemployment, or income statements for all adults in the household.
