Marine Claims Specialist (Johannesburg)

Job Summary

A leading insurance provider is seeking a Marine Claims Specialist to manage high-severity and complex marine claims with minimal supervision, while delivering a customer-focused, efficient, and compliant claims service.

Key Responsibilities

Handle and resolve marine claims promptly, ensuring clear communication with customers and external contacts. Develop claim strategies, assess claims value, and finalise claims within authority limits. Engage with reinsurers and global claims teams for high-value cases, and ensure compliance with local regulations and governance.

Qualifications & Experience

A degree qualification and5+ years of marine or complex claims experience are required. Strong technical knowledge of claims handling and a deep understanding of legal liability, litigation processes, and industry standards are essential.

Skills & Competencies

A customer-centric mindset, strong prioritisation and time management skills, and the ability to adapt to business change are required. A high-level understanding of interdependencies with functions such as Underwriting, Legal, Finance, and Reinsurance is also necessary.
