

Administrator: Department – (2106)
The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is looking for a dedicated and organised Administrator to join the South African Institute for Advanced Material Chemistry (SAIAMC) within the Faculty of Natural Sciences. UWC is a dynamic university known for its research and commitment to education, while SAIAMC focuses on cutting-edge research and development in sustainable energy and environmental protection.
This is a permanent, full-time position located at our Main Campus in Bellville, Western Cape. The successful candidate will start on 01 May 2026.
About the Role
As an Administrator for the SAIAMC Department, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth running of daily operations. You will support academic, student, and financial processes, working closely with the Director and various stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle academic and student administration tasks.
- Manage enquiries effectively.
- Administer student marks and records.
- Provide administrative support for committees, including minute-taking.
- Assist with financial administration, including budget and ledger reporting, and procurement processes.
- Manage meeting schedules and minutes.
- Support Human Resources administration.
- Act as Personal Assistant to the Director of the Institute.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 certificate combined with a relevant three-year post-matric qualification and at least three years of relevant administrative experience. OR Matric certificate with three to five years of relevant administrative experience.
- Proficiency in computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other MS Office Suites.
- Demonstrated administrative experience within a Higher Education environment.
- Knowledge of student administration systems.
- Experience in financial administration within a Higher Education setting.
Required Competencies
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- Strong ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exceptional attention to detail.
Advantageous Skills and Experience
- Previous experience working in a Natural Sciences or Engineering environment at a university would be a significant advantage.
- Experience in supervising or training administrative assistants.
