

Credit Risk Oversight Manager
Are you an experienced credit risk professional looking for a leadership role in a dynamic banking environment? Capitec Bank is seeking a dedicated Credit Risk Oversight Manager to join their team in Stellenbosch, Western Cape.
In this crucial second-line oversight role, you will play a vital part in ensuring Capitec’s enterprise-wide credit risk is managed effectively, aligning with regulatory requirements and the bank’s strategic goals. You will challenge and influence first-line credit risk practices, policies, and risk appetite, while upholding strong governance and overseeing the credit lifecycle.
What You Will Do:
- Provide strategic second-line oversight of Capitec’s credit risk across the entire organisation.
- Ensure the Credit Risk Framework is effectively implemented and operationalised, meeting all regulatory requirements and business strategies.
- Challenge and influence first-line credit risk practices, policies, and the bank’s risk appetite.
- Ensure robust governance, data risk management, and comprehensive oversight of the credit lifecycle.
- Collaborate with internal assurance functions, such as Model Risk and Data Governance, to ensure risk is accurately measured, monitored, and reported according to best practices.
Who We Are Looking For:
Experience:
- Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in credit risk, with 3–5 years in a senior or oversight position within banking or financial services.
- Proven track record in credit policy, credit analytics, or credit risk oversight.
- Experience working directly with or closely alongside second-line risk, model risk, or internal audit functions.
- Familiarity with ICAAP, Recovery Planning, or regulatory submissions.
- Exposure to applying RDARR principles and using Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) for monitoring.
- Experience in preparing and presenting risk reports to board and executive levels.
Qualifications:
- Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (Management Accounting).
- Ideal/Preferred: Honours Degree in Risk Management.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Excellent communication and report writing skills.
- Working knowledge of the credit lifecycle and various credit products (e.g., unsecured loans, revolving credit).
- High-level understanding of key financial regulations like IFRS 9, Basel II/III, ICAAP, and Recovery Planning.
- Proficiency in risk appetite design and monitoring.
- Understanding of stress testing and early warning indicators.
- Familiarity with Governance, Risk, and Control (GRC) frameworks, including the Three Lines of Defence model.
- Knowledge of data governance and model governance (from a non-technical oversight perspective).
- Analytical Skills, Attention to Detail, Change Management, Computer Literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook), Leadership, Negotiation, and Numerical Reasoning skills are essential.
