South Africa HR Lead

Are you a seasoned Human Resources professional ready to take on a leadership role in South Africa? A prominent organisation is actively seeking a dynamic and strategic HR Lead to spearhead all HR initiatives and support its growth in the region.

About the Opportunity

As the HR Lead for South Africa, you will be crucial in developing and implementing comprehensive HR strategies and operations. Your responsibilities will span the entire employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding to performance management, talent development, and employee relations. This position requires in-depth knowledge of South African labour legislation, a passion for fostering a positive work environment, and the ability to align HR objectives with the company’s broader business goals. You will serve as a trusted advisor to senior management on all human capital matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage HR strategies, policies, and procedures in line with business objectives.
  • Oversee the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, selection, onboarding, and retention programs.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all South African labour laws and regulations (e.g., LRA, BCEA, EE Act).
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to management and employees on HR-related issues, including employee relations, disciplinary processes, and grievances.
  • Lead compensation and benefits reviews, ensuring competitive and fair remuneration practices that attract and retain top talent.
  • Drive performance management cycles, talent development initiatives, and succession planning.
  • Cultivate a strong company culture that promotes engagement, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Manage HR reporting and analytics to inform strategic decision-making and measure HR effectiveness.
  • Oversee HR administration, payroll inputs, and the efficient use of HR information systems.

Who We’re Looking For

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, or a related field is essential. A Master’s degree or professional HR certification (e.g., SABPP) is highly advantageous.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or senior HR generalist capacity within South Africa.
  • Demonstrable in-depth knowledge and practical application of South African labour legislation and best practices.
  • Proven experience in strategic HR planning, talent management, organisational development, and employee relations.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to operate autonomously, manage multiple priorities, and effectively lead HR initiatives.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
