TOWN AND REGIONAL PLANNER: PRODUCTION GRADE A

The Gauteng Department of Social Development is looking for a dedicated and experienced Town and Regional Planner at Production Grade A. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to spatial planning and land use management, playing a vital role in shaping communities across Gauteng.

About the Role

As a Production Grade A Town and Regional Planner, you will be instrumental in executing spatial planning and land use management tasks within the Integrated Development Management Systems (IDMS) directorate. Your work will involve applying your expertise to ensure sustainable urban and regional development, adhering to relevant legislation and best practices. You will be responsible for critical decision-making, team coordination, and contributing to the effective management of immovable government assets and infrastructure delivery.

Key Requirements

  • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Urban/Town and Regional Planning or an equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of professional experience post-qualification.
  • Registration: Compulsory registration with SACPLAN as a Professional Town & Regional Planner.
  • Licence: A valid driver’s licence is required.

Required Knowledge & Skills

Candidates should possess a strong understanding of:

  • PFMA, DoRA, Treasury Regulations, Practice Notes, Instructions, Circulars.
  • Government Immovable Asset Management Act of 2007 (GIAMA).
  • Framework for Infrastructure Delivery and Procurement Management (FIPDM).
  • Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act 13 of 2013 (SPLUMA).
  • Children’s Act of 2005 and the Best Practice Note of 2010.
  • Government spatial planning systems and norms, and relevant Provincial Land Administration Legislation.

Essential skills include: decision-making, team leadership, analytical thinking, creativity, self-management, financial management, customer focus, communication, computer literacy, delegation, planning, organising, execution, and conflict management.

Salary Package

This position offers a competitive monthly salary package ranging from R 63,429 to R 95,334 (equivalent to R 761,157 to R 1,144,008 per annum), structured within the OSD Framework.

Location & Employer

This position is based at the Head Office of the Gauteng Department of Social Development, located in Johannesburg, Gauteng.
