- You need a Grade 12 certificate.
- You should have a three-year National Diploma or BCom Degree in one of these fields:
- Financial Management
- Accounting
- Economics
- Finance (this includes Risk Management and/or Auditing)
- Good news! No prior work experience is required – this programme is designed for fresh graduates.
- You must be between 21 and 35 years old.
- This is a first-time opportunity, so you shouldn’t have participated in a formal internship programme before.
What Does It Cover?
This isn’t just about making coffee! The MFMIP is designed to give you comprehensive training across vital areas of municipal finance. You’ll gain practical experience and a deep understanding in:
- Implementing GRAP (Generally Recognised Accounting Practice) and modern budget reforms.
- Financial and performance reporting – understanding how municipalities track their progress.
- Mastering change, risk, and project management within a government setting.
- Managing expenditure and revenue – the heart of municipal finance.
- Getting hands-on with supply chain and procurement management.
- Understanding and implementing the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA).
- Effective asset management.
You’ll also receive a stipend of R100 000 per annum (all-inclusive) for the 36-month fixed-term programme, helping you focus on learning and growing!
