Internship: Social Work

The Gauteng Department of Social Development is offering an exciting internship opportunity for young, unemployed Social Work graduates. This program aims to provide practical work experience and exposure within a professional environment, helping you kickstart your career in social services.

About the Internship

This internship is designed for individuals who have completed their Bachelor of Arts in Social Work and are looking to gain hands-on experience. You will be placed within various institutions and corridors throughout the Gauteng Department of Social Development, contributing to vital social services across the province.

  • Stipend: R7,860.50 per month

What You’ll Need (Requirements)

To be eligible for this internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Social Work.
  • Current registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professionals (SACSSP).

Your Responsibilities (Duties)

As an intern, you will be involved in practical work that provides essential exposure to the social work environment. This includes participating in departmental projects and activities, supporting social service initiatives, and learning from experienced professionals.

Important Application Details

  • Who Can Apply: Unemployed youth aged between 18 and 35 years old from all race and gender categories are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to youth with disabilities.
  • Required Documents: When applying, you must submit a fully completed and signed Z83 application form, a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV), and certified copies of your relevant qualification(s) and ID document.
  • IEC Verification: It is mandatory to attach an Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) voting district verification printout. This printout must indicate your voting station and ward details and can be accessed from the IEC website: https://www.elections.org.za/pw/.
  • Incomplete Applications: Please note that incomplete, faxed, or emailed applications will not be considered.
  • Response Time: If you do not receive a response from the Department within 6 months of the closing date, please consider your application unsuccessful.
