Who Can Apply?

So, who’s eligible for this awesome funding opportunity? Check if you tick these boxes:

  • You must be a South African citizen.
  • You’re currently in Matric (Grade 12) or you’ve already completed your Matric.
  • You’re studying or planning to study full-time for an NQF7 qualification or higher (that’s typically a Bachelor’s Degree or an Honours Degree).
  • Important: This bursary is NOT for N4/5/6, Higher Certificates, Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas, Masters, or Doctoral studies. Also, it doesn’t cover distance learning institutions like UNISA or TVET colleges.
  • You must be registered or intend to register at a DHET/CHE registered university or tertiary institution.
  • You need to have achieved a Bachelor’s Pass in Matric with a minimum average of 65%.
  • If you’re already studying, you need a minimum average of 65% for your latest full academic year (e.g., 2024 and so far in 2025).
  • Capitec also looks at students who are on track to finish their qualification on time (no N+1 years) and those who align with their transformation and employment equity goals.
  • The bursary covers degrees in fields like Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Digital Marketing, Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Information Technology, Mathematics, Quantitative Management, and Statistics.

Step 2: Gather Your Documents!

You’ll need to upload clear, certified copies of the following documents with your online application. Make sure nothing is missing, or your application might not be considered!

  • Your ID document (certified copy)
  • If you’re currently in Matric: Your Grade 11 final report and latest (Term 2) Grade 12 school report with the school stamp (certified copies)
  • If you’ve completed Matric: Your Matric certificate (certified copy)
  • If you’re currently studying: Your latest/June 2025 Official Academic Transcripts (certified copy)
  • Your 2025 official university fee statements
  • If you live in off-campus accommodation, your lease agreement
  • Full Tertiary Academic Records for all years of tertiary study (certified copy) OR a police affidavit if you can’t provide them for a valid reason.
  • Parents or guardians’ ID documents/passports/death certificates (certified copies)
  • Parents or guardians’ proof of household income (latest 3 months’ payslips if employed, company registration documents if self-employed, police affidavits if unemployed, or SASSA documents if receiving a social grant)
  • Funding confirmation contracts, letters, or offers if you’re receiving NSFAS funding, OR a police affidavit stating you’ve never received NSFAS funding.
  • Funding confirmation contracts, letters, or offers if you’re receiving another bursary, OR a police affidavit stating you’ve never received funds from another bursary or funding award.
  • If you are under 18 years old, a Consent form signed and completed by your parent/legal guardian, along with their certified ID copy.
  • If you are disabled: Department of Labour Employment Equity Act (EEA1) Form AND a Diagnosis Letter from your Doctor.
