Masakh’iSizwe Bursary Programme 2026
The Western Cape Department of Infrastructure invites eligible South African youth to apply for the Masakh’iSizwe Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year. This programme aims to develop skilled professionals in the engineering and built environment disciplines by providing financial support and development opportunities.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be accepted or registered to study full-time at one of the following Western Cape institutions:
- Stellenbosch University
- University of Cape Town
- Cape Peninsula University of Technology
- Be pursuing or intending to pursue a degree or diploma in a built environment or engineering field
- Preference will be given to:
- Persons with disabilities
- Financially disadvantaged individuals
- Female learners
- Residents of the Western Cape
Fields of Study Funded
Bursaries are available for full-time studies in the following disciplines:
- Civil Engineering
- Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current)
- Mechanical Engineering
- Geomatics
- Construction
- Architecture
- Quantity Surveying
- City and Regional Planning
- Property Studies
Bursary Coverage
The bursary covers:
- Tuition fees
- Prescribed books and study materials
- Accommodation and meals (or transport if living off-campus)
- Support programmes
Compulsory Supporting Documents
Applicants must submit the following:
- Certified copy of ID
- Certified copy of parent(s)/guardian(s) ID
- Certified copy of Matric certificate or latest results
- Certified copy of academic record (if already in tertiary)
- Full course outline / prospectus
- Estimated study costs
- Proof of registration or application at a partner university
- Salary slips or affidavit (financial status of parents/guardian/spouse)
- Proof of address
- Motivation letter
Additional documents (if applicable):
- Proof of financial aid
- Proof of existing debt
- Medical proof of disability
- Police clearance (criminal record)
Important Application Notes
- Separate applications are required for each institution or study discipline
- Incomplete applications will not be considered
- Successful applicants will be required to:
- Attend workshops, events, and outreach programmes
- Complete academic experiential training
- Undergo professional development after graduation (if employed by the Department)
