Who Can Apply
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be South African citizens
- Be currently in Grade 12 (Class of 2025) or have completed matric in 2024
- Plan to begin first-year undergraduate studies at UCT in 2026
- Come from a household earning less than R600 000 annually
- Show strong academics, leadership qualities, and a history of ethical behaviour
- Be applying for a 4-year programme or the 6-year MBChB (medicine) at UCT
What You Need to Submit
Applicants must provide:
- Academic transcripts or recent school results
- A recommendation letter (from a teacher, coach, or mentor – not a relative)
- Proof of household income
- Four personal essays:
- A personal failure and what it taught you
- Your vision for South Africa in 50 years and your role in shaping it
