Bursary Details

Oppenheimer Memorial Trust awards a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate study at Master’s, Doctoral and Postdoctoral level. 

Deadlines and Guidelines

For studies commencing January to June 2026

• Submissions open: 1 June 2025
• Deadline for submissions: 28 August 2025  

For studies commencing July to December 2025

• Submissions open: 6 January 2025
• Deadline for submissions: 31 March 2025    

Candidate Requirements

Scholarships are given to candidates with a proven record of academic excellence who intend topursue careers in academia, research, development or related fields in South Africa.Preference may be given to students pursuing studies at local universities.

Only exceptional candidates, who present specific and purposeful plans for advanced programmes in unique or highly specialised disciplines not readily available in South Africa, will be considered for international scholarships. Or who are able to demonstrate that they have advanced to a level where international tuition at a renowned institution, or under the direction of global leaders in their particular discipline will contribute meaningfully to their chosen fields.
