DCS conducts an incident-free learnership

The Department of Correctional Services conducted physical assessments of its correctional services learnership candidates last month.

Many applicants from the Gert Sibande district took part in these physical assessments. The assessments took place at Hoogenhout Primary School. Bethal Hospital medical staff were present in case of an emergency.

According to a statement released by the DCS, the assessments took place without incidents.

The area coordinator for corporate services, Mzwamakhaya Dlepu, stated they did not take lightly the applications for these learnerships.

Applicators underwent various screening processes, including medical screening, 2.4km running track and shuttle laps.

“If you have the ambition of becoming a correctional official, we encourage you to exercise daily and live a healthy lifestyle because physical fitness is a key requirement,” he said.

Successful candidates will undergo DCS training for three months at training colleges.

According to the statement, after completing the DCS learnership programme and confirmation of permanent employment, each successful applicant will be deployed to correctional centres in the Bethal Management Area for one-year experiential duties.

Dlepu appreciated the applicants for being readily available for the physical assessment.

“We appreciate the team for the stunning performance. We are content they completed the task incident-free,” added Dlepu, thanking the physical assessment team.
