Bursary Description

Dear Campus Community,

The Accelerated Excellence Programme (AEP) was introduced at UWC in 2018 as part of our commitment to student retention and aligned with UWC’s Reward and Recognition Strategy. The programme aims to equip high-performing second-year students with essential skills for the evolving job market.

Participants in the AEP are selected based on their first-year academic achievements, with consideration given to equity across faculties. Each Dean reviews and approves the student selections from their respective faculties.

The AEP includes monthly lunchtime meetings and four residential modules held quarterly. Since its inception, 101 students have completed the programme.

On Tuesday, 22 October, we celebrated the 2024 cohort with a certificate ceremony. This cohort is notable for several reasons: they are the first all-female cohort; they are the first to receive certificates in the same year they completed the programme; and they are the first group to document their reflective journeys.

The capturing of their journeys and experiences take various creative forms, such as videos, songs, poems or essays.

I have been privileged to have initiated the AEP at UWC, with Dr Anita Maürtin, Director: Strategic Academic Projects in the DVC: Academic Office, as coordinator. I wish Dr Maürtin and future AEP cohorts well in this incredibly enriching programme.
