Head of Department, Control Systems and Digitization

Are you an an experienced leader in industrial automation and control systems looking for a pivotal role? AAAA (Pty) Ltd is seeking a Head of Department to lead our Control Systems and Digitization team. This key position involves overseeing the design, development, and testing of cutting-edge control systems and operational technology, ensuring excellence for our clients.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management:

• Lead, mentor, and manage the control systems engineering team, ensuring high standards of project quality, safety, and adherence to timelines.
• Oversee system integration projects from conception to completion, focusing on profitability, timely delivery, and contract compliance.
• Collaborate effectively with other departments and clients to ensure seamless project coordination.
• Ensure team members meet all necessary training and certification standards.
• Provide comprehensive reports on project status, safety protocols, and quality metrics.

Technical Expertise:

• Design and develop cost-effective, innovative solutions tailored to client specifications.
• Prepare detailed designs and robust system architectures for software and communication network implementations.
• Develop, test, and implement advanced PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), SCADA/HMI (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition/Human-Machine Interface), and various operational technology (OT) applications.
• Create realistic simulation applications for thorough testing and effective training purposes.
• Maintain and ensure strict adherence to project quality standards throughout the development lifecycle.
• Provide dedicated post-project support, comprehensive training, and continuous client assistance for Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and callouts.

Qualifications & Experience

• A Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or Mechatronic Engineering.
• Minimum of 5-10 years of professional experience in industrial automation.
• At least 5 years of experience in project management or a leadership/management role.
• Demonstrable expertise in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Schneider, Allen Bradley, etc.).
• Proficiency in SCADA development (e.g., Aveva, Siemens, Rockwell, etc.).
• Experience with Microsoft SQL and Reporting Services.
• Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Building Management Systems (BMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS) is advantageous.
• Prior exposure to FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods), Food & Beverage, or Milling industries is a plus.
