What You’ll Be Doing (Key Responsibilities)
As an Underwriting Administrator, your core responsibilities will include:
Policy Administration: Providing comprehensive administrative support to underwriters for both personal and commercial lines. This involves processing new insurance policies, renewals, endorsements, and cancellations. You will also be responsible for reviewing applications to ensure they meet underwriting requirements and accurately maintaining and updating policy records within the system.
Data Management: Accurately entering client and policy information into the underwriting system. You will assist in gathering and compiling all necessary documentation required for underwriting reviews, and meticulously keep detailed records of all policy changes, customer communications, and endorsements.
Customer Service & Communication: Serving as a key point of contact, you will communicate professionally with brokers, agents, and clients to request additional information or clarify policy details. You will respond to inquiries regarding insurance policies, coverage, and underwriting processes, and proactively follow up on any outstanding documentation, keeping all stakeholders informed.
Compliance & Reporting: Ensuring that all documentation and processes comply with company policies and regulatory requirements. You will prepare and submit various underwriting reports to management as needed, and monitor policy adherence to internal underwriting standards.
What We’re Looking For (Requirements)
To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and experience:
Education & Certifications: A Matric certificate is essential, coupled with a BCom Degree. You must also hold relevant regulatory exams and industry-specific certifications, such as FAIS and RE5.
Experience: A minimum of 2 years of administrative experience within the short-term insurance sector is required, with demonstrated exposure to both personal and commercial lines. Previous direct experience working within an underwriting department is crucial.
Knowledge & Skills: A strong understanding of short-term insurance products, particularly for commercial and personal lines, is essential. You must possess excellent administrative skills, with a strong focus on accuracy and meticulous attention to detail. Proficiency in insurance management systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required. The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently is key. Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary for professional interaction with clients and colleagues. We are looking for a collaborative team player who can effectively work with underwriters and other departments.
