The Gauteng Treasury is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Chief Director to lead their Local Government Financial Services within the Municipal Finance Management Directorate. This is a crucial senior management role focused on ensuring sound financial management practices across municipalities and municipal entities in Gauteng.
About the Role
As the Chief Director, you will be responsible for providing strategic oversight, support, and guidance on all aspects of financial management for local government, ensuring compliance with the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) and related regulations. This includes managing financial assets and liabilities, overseeing municipal budgets, and monitoring revenue practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and management for the Chief Directorate.
- Offer strategic oversight and support for financial assets and liabilities in municipalities, aligning with MFMA.
- Ensure strategic oversight and support for municipal budgets and related processes, promoting optimal financial resource allocation and integrated planning.
- Monitor and support municipal revenue practices and processes to ensure compliance with MFMA and other relevant legislation.
- Provide strategic support to municipalities on financial management practices.
- Foster effective and strategic intergovernmental relations, both internally and externally.
Who We Are Looking For
Requirements:
- An undergraduate qualification (NQF Level 7) in Financial Management, Accounting, Auditing, Internal Auditing, Economics, Cost Management, or Accounting.
- A minimum of 5 years of working experience at a senior managerial level within local government (municipalities, municipal entities, or Provincial Treasuries MFMA Units).
- At least 5 years of experience specifically in Financial Management, Accounting, Auditing, Internal Auditing, Economics, Cost Management, or Accounting.
- Successful completion of the Pre-entry SMS Certificate (compulsory for appointment). You can access the course here: NSG SMS Pre-Entry Programme.

- This position is specifically earmarked to address employment equity, focusing on female and youth representation at the Senior Management level.

Salary & Benefits
The position offers an attractive all-inclusive package of R 1,494,900 per annum. This package includes a basic salary (70% of the package) and a flexible portion that can be structured according to applicable guidelines.
