Job Description
As a Manager II in Finance, Revenue & Administration, with a focus on Fundraising & Development, you will play a crucial role in implementing UJ’s fundraising strategy and strengthening strategic partnerships. Your responsibilities will include:
- Implementing the institutional fundraising strategy in line with UJ’s overall strategic plan.
- Overseeing fundraising governance and ensuring priority projects are ready for donor support.
- Maintaining and ensuring accuracy of the donor database, adhering to data protection policies.
- Ensuring team adherence to established stewardship protocols.
- Contributing to the planning, design, and execution of strategic fundraising campaigns.
- Establishing, building, maintaining, and managing relationships with key South African and international funders.
- Securing major donations through crucial collaboration opportunities.
- Ensuring accurate and efficient financial and administrative duties, adhering to policies.
- Developing and implementing an overall fundraising plan to strengthen strategic partnerships.
- Interacting with businesses, government, and semi-government agencies.
- Developing creative ways to promote the institution to all stakeholders locally and internationally.
- Increasing year-on-year the number of strategic partners and donations.
- Ensuring growth by attracting new donors, retaining current ones, and renewing lapsed donors.
- Implementing and overseeing an effective stewardship programme.
- Collaborating closely with Alumni Relations, Global Engagement, University Relations, and Research teams, as well as internal clients (faculties & project leaders).
- Managing the fundraising operational budget effectively and accurately.
- Adhering to all ad hoc requests from the Senior Manager and Director of Development and Fundraising.
Minimum Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree (NQF 7) in Public Relations, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in a fundraising environment.
- At least 3 years of management experience.
- Proven experience in fundraising and development initiatives.

- Understanding of data privacy and compliance requirements (e.g., POPIA).
Recommendations
The following are considered advantageous for this role:
- Relevant qualification in Public Relations/Marketing.
- Experience in fundraising and development projects.
- Experience in staff management and project management.
- Experience in the Higher Education sector and/or non-profit sector.
