The Department of Infrastructure Development in Gauteng is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Production Engineer to join its Health Infrastructure and Technical Portfolio Service in Johannesburg. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to significant engineering projects and ensure high standards of infrastructure development within the province.

About the Role

As a Mechanical Production Engineer, you will be instrumental in the planning, design, operation, and maintenance of various engineering projects. You will be responsible for developing cost-effective solutions, ensuring adherence to engineering standards, and promoting continuous development within the team.

Salary Package

This is an all-inclusive package ranging from R 879 342.00 to R 1 323 267.00 per annum. This package comprises a basic salary (70%) and a flexible portion (30%) that can be structured according to applicable rules, including the state’s contribution to the Government Employees Pension Fund (13% of basic salary). The final offer will reflect your recognized experience post-registration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, operate, and maintain engineering projects effectively.
  • Develop and implement cost-effective engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Evaluate and update technical manuals, standard drawings, and procedures to incorporate new technologies.
  • Prepare detailed tender specifications for projects.
  • Ensure that all planning and design work, whether in-house or by external parties, adheres to sound engineering principles, norms, standards, and codes of practice.
  • Approve engineering works based on prescribed norms and standards.
  • Facilitate the training and development of technicians, technologists, and candidate engineers, fostering knowledge transfer and adherence to sound engineering practices.
  • Supervise engineering processes, manage team performance, and contribute to staff development.
  • Efficiently manage resources, including preparing and consolidating inputs for resource utilization.
  • Ensure strict adherence to procurement regulations and personnel administration procedures.
  • Monitor and control project expenditure, providing regular reports on spending and service delivery.

Minimum Requirements

  • An Engineering degree (B Eng / BSc (Eng)) in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience in Engineering.
  • Must be registered as a Professional Engineer with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa).
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
