UJInvnt (Pty) Ltd., an entity of the University of Johannesburg, is seeking a talented individual to join their team on a 3-year contract basis. About UJInvnt (Pty) Ltd.
UJInvnt is an Intellectual Property Holding Company dedicated to acquiring, exploiting, licensing, and sublicensing patents, trademarks, copyrights, and other industrial property rights, including ‘know-how’. Its core objectives include:
- Commercialising opportunities arising from University activities, especially Intellectual Property (IP), through various means like licensing, IP asset sales, and equity stakes in new ventures.
- Providing technical, training, and consultancy services.
- Acting as a Holding Company for commercial activities and holding shares on behalf of the University of Johannesburg in subsidiary companies.
Your Role as Marketing Officer
As the Marketing Officer, you will be crucial in enhancing UJInvnt’s market presence and amplifying the success of its investee companies. This role involves a blend of strategic branding, impactful content creation, and collaborative efforts to achieve marketing objectives. You will excel at crafting compelling stories, developing high-impact marketing materials, and using data to measure effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
Branding & Promotion
- Develop and execute marketing strategies to boost UJInvnt’s brand among founders, investors, and industry stakeholders.
- Create engaging content for digital platforms (website, LinkedIn, newsletters) highlighting investment theses, portfolio success stories, and thought leadership.
- Organize and promote events such as webinars, pitch days, and industry conferences to engage target audiences.
Portfolio Company Support
- Collaborate with investee companies to create custom marketing collateral (e.g., pitch decks, case studies, product launch kits).
- Provide expert advice to portfolio teams on branding, digital marketing, and customer acquisition strategies.
- Develop exit-focused materials (e.g., investor memos, technology briefs, acquisition teasers) to enhance valuation and attract buyers/investors.
PR & Media Relations
- Manage media outreach to secure coverage for UJInvnt and its portfolio companies in leading publications (e.g., TechCrunch, Forbes).
- Craft compelling press releases, blog posts, and success stories highlighting key milestones, funding rounds, and successful exits.
Performance Analytics
- Track and report on marketing campaign Return on Investment (ROI), including website traffic, social media engagement, and lead generation.
- Utilize data insights to refine marketing strategies and optimize resource allocation.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with investment teams to align marketing efforts with the specific needs of portfolio companies.
- Identify and leverage strategic partnerships and co-marketing opportunities.
Minimum Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of proven experience in marketing, ideally within venture capital, private equity, or high-growth startup environments.
- Expertise in digital marketing, including SEO/SEM, LinkedIn campaigns, and email marketing.
- Proficiency with marketing tools such as HubSpot, Google Analytics, Canva, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Strong storytelling capabilities with experience in crafting investor-facing content.
- Familiarity with startup ecosystems, venture capital, impact investing, and development finance institution cycles.
- A valid driver’s license.
