About the Department

The Department of Infrastructure Development is responsible for building and maintaining essential infrastructure across Gauteng, contributing significantly to the province’s growth and well-being. This role falls under the Health Infrastructure and Technical Portfolio Service Directorate.

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)

  • Plan, design, operate, and maintain various electrical engineering projects.
  • Develop and implement cost-effective engineering solutions, adhering to industry standards.
  • Evaluate and update existing technical manuals, drawings, and procedures to incorporate new technologies.
  • Prepare comprehensive tender specifications for projects.
  • Ensure all engineering planning and design by external parties align with sound engineering principles, norms, and codes of practice.
  • Approve engineering works in accordance with prescribed standards.
  • Facilitate the training and development of technicians, technologists, and candidate engineers, promoting knowledge transfer and adherence to engineering principles.
  • Supervise engineering work processes and manage performance and development of staff.
  • Effectively manage resources, including preparing and consolidating inputs for optimal resource utilization.
  • Ensure strict adherence to procurement and personnel administration regulations and procedures.
  • Monitor and control project expenditures, providing regular reports on financial outlay and service delivery.

What You’ll Need (Requirements)

  • An Engineering degree (B Eng / BSc (Eng)) in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification experience in Engineering.
  • Must be registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
  • A valid driver’s license is essential.

Salary & Benefits

The position offers an attractive all-inclusive package ranging from R 879,342.00 to R 1,323,267.00 per annum. This package includes a basic salary (70%) and a flexible portion (30%) which may be structured as per applicable rules, including the state’s contribution to the Government Employees Pension Fund.
