Are you an experienced and dedicated Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine ready to take on a leadership role? Tambo Memorial Hospital, under the Department of Health, is looking for a dynamic Head of Clinical Unit to oversee internal medicine services. As the Head of Clinical Unit for Internal Medicine, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring high-quality patient care, leading and supervising medical teams, and contributing to both teaching and research within the hospital. What You’ll Be Doing (Key Responsibilities)

Your main duties will include:

  • Providing excellent patient care and efficiently coordinating all Internal Medicine services.
  • Supervising and mentoring junior medical staff and students.
  • Conducting regular Grand ward rounds and Consultant ward rounds.
  • Managing the Outpatient Department, providing inter- and intra-disciplinary consultations, and facilitating referrals between facilities.
  • Leading outreach initiatives and managing patient referrals to lower levels of care.
  • Organizing and supervising clinical and theoretical teaching for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Actively participating in medical research.
  • Performing essential administrative and management tasks for the unit.

Who We’re Looking For (Requirements)

To qualify for this senior position, you must have:

  • An appropriate medical qualification (MBChB, FCP(SA), MMED) allowing for registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine.
  • Current registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience as a Medical Specialist after registering with the HPCSA in Internal Medicine.
  • Proven knowledge and skills in assessing and managing patients within the specialist field.
  • A basic understanding of Human Resources matters, including labour relations.
  • Familiarity with legislative requirements governing the public service.
  • Exceptional communication, managerial, leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure and as part of a team, along with self-confidence and strong relationship-building capabilities.
  • A strong track record in clinical governance, research, and experience in supervising, training, and teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • A publication record will be considered a distinct advantage.

Salary

R 2 084 754.00 per annum (All-inclusive package).
