Medical Specialist in Anaesthesiology Grade 1 – 3
The Department of Health, based at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital, is seeking highly skilled and dedicated Medical Specialists in Anaesthesiology (Grade 1-3) to join their clinical services team. This is a vital role offering the opportunity to contribute significantly to patient care, teaching, and research within a leading academic hospital environment.
About the Opportunity
You will be joining a dynamic team responsible for delivering effective and efficient clinical anaesthesiology services. This position involves a joint appointment between the Gauteng Department of Health and prominent academic institutions such as the University of Witwatersrand, University of Pretoria, and Sefako Makgatho University. This unique setup provides a rich environment for clinical practice, academic growth, and research contributions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive and efficient clinical anaesthesiology services within the central hospital and its cluster hospitals.
- Actively participate in the teaching and examination of both undergraduate and postgraduate students in relevant aspects of Clinical Anaesthesiology.
- Initiate, lead, and contribute to research activities and publications, aligning with the School of Medicine’s strategic plans.
- Undertake essential administrative and academic duties, working closely with and supporting the Head of Department.
- Form part of the after-hours specialist cover for the Anaesthesiology Department, providing 24-hour clinical service as required.
Who We Are Looking For
Requirements:
- A Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree.
- A Master of Medicine (MMed) degree or an equivalent postgraduate qualification specifically in Anaesthesiology.
- Current and valid registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Specialist in Anaesthesiology.
Experience Levels:
- Grade 1: No experience required after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in a normal Speciality.
- Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years of appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after HPCSA registration in a normal Speciality.
- Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years of appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after HPCSA registration in a normal Speciality.
Additional Attributes:
- A strong proven record in clinical governance, clinical expertise, and research.
- Experience in supervision, training, and teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- A publication record will be considered a significant advantage.
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership, administrative, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills are essential.
