The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is looking for a skilled and resourceful Electrical Operator to join its Infrastructure and Engineering Department. About the Department

The Infrastructure and Engineering Department plays a pivotal role in the maintenance and improvement of the University’s infrastructure, ensuring a functional and safe environment for the UWC community.

Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas

Reporting to the Electrical Foreman, your duties will include:

  • Managing and updating records of all electrical requirements and asset inventory.
  • Providing general assistance to the Electrical Foreman and Maintenance Manager.
  • Creating and closing Job Cards using the maintenance management system.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving electrical issues efficiently.
  • Communicating effectively with management regarding electrical problems.
  • Sourcing and managing electrical parts and spares.
  • Engaging with clients, service providers, and vendors.
  • Reporting on building and equipment conditions and performance.
  • Maintaining the vehicle log book.
  • Researching and proposing new technologies to reduce costs and improve service.
  • Ensuring compliance with OHS Act and other safety regulations for employees, buildings, and equipment.

Minimum Requirements

  • National Senior Certificate (Matric).
  • A minimum of 2 years of practical experience working with electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
  • Valid Code EB driver’s license with at least 2 years of driving experience.

Essential Skills & Competencies

  • Physically fit and comfortable working at heights.
  • Computer literate.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Competent in reading and interpreting technical drawings.
  • Strong understanding of workplace health and safety regulations.
  • Flexibility to work overtime when required.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
