- You need a Matric / Grade 12 (NQF Level 4).
 - You must have a Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in Public Management, Development Studies, Political Studies, or a similar field.
 - You absolutely need to be a resident of the vibrant City of Johannesburg.
 - This is important: You shouldn’t have participated in any other internship programme before, unless it was completely unrelated to your current field of study.
 
What Does It Cover?
This isn’t just about gaining experience; it’s about growing your skills and contributing meaningfully:
- What you’ll do: Your primary role will be to provide analytical, research, and coordination support to the Integrated Planning, Policy, and Research (IPPR) Directorate within the Department of Community Development. This means you’ll develop crucial skills in policy development, strategic planning, performance monitoring, and data analysis – all to support evidence-based decision-making and better service delivery in Joburg!
 - Key Learning Areas: You’ll get to conduct research, review policies, assist with business planning, support stakeholder engagement, collect and analyse data, and even provide administrative support for IPPR operations. This internship will sharpen your proficiency in tools like MS Excel and Power BI, boost your research, data analysis, and report-writing skills, and enhance your communication and organizational abilities. You’ll also gain an understanding of policy development cycles, municipal governance (MSA, MFMA), and performance management (SDBIP, IDP alignment).
 - Remuneration: You’ll receive a basic salary of R10,109.86 per month (note: this is a basic salary and does not include additional benefits).
 - Duration: The programme runs for a maximum of 18 months, giving you plenty of time to learn and grow.
