Scholarship Description:

DCU School of English is a dynamic research-focused school with expertise in a variety of literary eras and genres including Poetry, Children’s Literature, Irish Studies, American writing, post-colonial literature, Romanticism, nineteenth-century writing, the Novel, Drama, and Creative Writing. As part of our commitment to excellence in postgraduate research the School of English is pleased to offer scholarships for two full-time PhD students commencing September 2022. The successful candidates will receive a stipend of €16,500 per annum and have their fees paid for up to four years, subject to satisfactory annual progression. The School of English is committed to equality of treatment for all applicants.

This year, the School of English is particularly interested in receiving research proposals in the following areas:

  • Children’s/Young Adult Literature
  • Gender and Sexuality
  • Irish Literature and Irish Women’s Writing
  • Transcultural Writing
  • Poetry Studies

Degree Level:

Doctoral Research Scholarships 2022′ is available to undertake PhD, Research level programs at Dublin City University.

Scholarship Benefits:

The eligible PhD candidates will receive a stipend of €16,500 per annum and have their fees paid for up to four years, subject to satisfactory annual progression.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must:

  • Hold a relevant undergraduate degree at first-class honours level or at least 2.1 level. Ideally, applicants should hold a relevant Master’s qualification. Candidates who are currently completing a Master’s qualification are welcome to apply.
  • Meet, where relevant, the English language requirements for non-native speakers of English.
  • Be capable of contributing to the teaching of the School as they progress.

Application Procedure:

Candidates potentially interested in applying for a scholarship should in the first instance send a research proposal of c.3000 words accompanied by a bibliography (which is not included in the word count) to Dr Sharon Murphy, Research Convenor in the School of English at [email protected].

Dr. Murphy will establish whether there is a potential supervisor for the research project within the School. Applications that are not supported by a potential supervisor in the School will not be considered for the scholarship.

Applications should include the following:

  • A letter outlining the candidate’s suitability for the scholarship.
  • A research proposal of c.3000 words accompanied by a bibliography (which is not included in the word count).
  • A CV including names and contact details of two academic referees.
  • A copy of undergraduate and postgraduate degree certificates.
  • Copies of transcripts from undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
