The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is looking for a dedicated and skilled Technical Assistant III (Laboratory Assistant) to join the Department of Civil Engineering Technology at its Doornfontein Campus. This is a permanent, full-time position, offering a vital role within the Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment.

About the Role
As a Technical Assistant III, you will play a crucial role in supporting the academic and research activities within UJ’s Civil Engineering Technology department. This department offers accredited Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BEng Tech) and BEng Tech Honours programs.
Key Responsibilities
Your primary duties will include:
- Assisting undergraduate students with subject-related laboratory practicals.
- Providing essential support to postgraduate students and the department with relevant research practicals.
- Ensuring all laboratory equipment is regularly calibrated and maintained to operational standards, ensuring accuracy and safety.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:
- A relevant qualification (Diploma or Certification) at NQF Level 6.
- A minimum of three (3) years of appropriate practical experience in a laboratory setting.
Essential Skills & Attributes:
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a high level of proficiency in English.
- Strong computer literacy.
Recommended Skills & Experience:
Having any of the following will be a significant advantage:
- A BTech degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
- Knowledge of SABS (South African Bureau of Standards) test methods.
- Previous experience working with diverse groups of people, ideally in a supervisory role.
- Experience in health and safety practices within a laboratory environment.
