What is the DESTEA Environmental Health Inspector Bursary?
The Free State Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA) is committed to building a healthier, safer environment for everyone. This 24-month internship programme is designed to give qualified unemployed graduates hands-on experience in the crucial field of Environmental Health and related areas.
You’ll gain invaluable workplace exposure, boost your technical and professional skills, and even get life skills training to make you super employable. Successful candidates will receive a generous monthly stipend of R7 860.38 and will be placed across four different district service centres within the Free State. Who Can Apply?

- You must be an unemployed graduate.
- You need an NQF Level 6 qualification in one of these fields: Environmental Health, Public Health, Occupational Health & Safety, or Food and Safety Management.
- You must be a resident of the Free State Province.

How to Apply?
Applying is straightforward, but pay close attention to the details:
General Application Instructions:
- Applications must be submitted using the official Z83 form (which you can get from any public service department).
- Attach a comprehensive CV to your Z83 form.
- Certified copies of your qualifications, ID, and academic transcripts will only be required if you are shortlisted – so no need to send them with your initial application!
- If you’re applying for more than one position (each with a different reference number), make sure to submit a separate Z83 form for each post.
- Keep your application file size manageable! All documents should not exceed 4MB in total. If your files are larger, you might need to send them in separate emails or packages.
