Scholarship Description:
Future 50 PhD Scholarships – College of Science and Engineering is open for International Students . The scholarship allows PhD level programm(s) in the field of Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematical Sciences, Geography, Geology, Physics, Astronomy, Engineering taught at University of Leicester . The deadline of the scholarship is expired at 20 Jan 2023.
£5.45m have been invested by University of Leicester in 50 PhD Scholarships for entry in autumn 2023 as a part of its ambition to deliver on its strategic aim to ‘nurture the next generation of researchers to become world-leaders in their field’. 11 scholarships will be distributed through the College of Science and Engineering, which comprises five schools (Chemistry, Computing and Mathematical Sciences; Engineering; Geography, Geology and the Environment; Physics and Astronomy) and Space Park Leicester, a national centre combining world-leading excellence in space research, inclusive education and training, and space-enabled industry.
The University of Leicester is a public research university based in Leicester, England. The main campus is south of the city centre, adjacent to Victoria Park. The university’s predecessor, University College, Leicester, gained university status in 1957.

Future 50 PhD Scholarships – College of Science and Engineering is available to undertake PhD level programs at University of Leicester.

Scholarship Benefits:
Studentships provide funding for 3.5 years to include:
- Tuition fees at UK rates
- Stipend at UKRI rates for 2023 to be confirmed in early 2023 (currently £17,668 for 2022 entry)
- Access to a Research Training Support Grant of up to £1,500 pa for 3 years.
- Bench fees of £5,000 per annum for three years for laboratory-based studies
International applicants will need to be able to fund the difference between UK and International fees for the duration of study. For projects on this page the fees will be:
- Full international fees will be £21,850 per year
- UK fees are to be confirmed in early 2023 (currently £4596 for 2022)
- International students would need to be able to pay fees of approximately £17,200 per year of study.
- Exact fee will be advised at the point of offer.
Eligible Nationalities:
This scholarship is open to international students.
Eligibility Criteria:
UK and International* applicants are welcome to apply.
To be classed as UK applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a UK National (meeting residency requirements), or
- Have EU settled status, or
- Have EU pre-settled status (meeting 3 years residency requirement) or,
- Have indefinite leave to remain or enter

*International applicants
- Applicants who do not meet the criteria for UK fees will be classed as an international student.
- International students will need to be able to fund the difference between UK and International fees for the duration of study. See funding section for further information.

With your application, please include:
- CV
- Personal statement explaining, briefly, your interest in the project and your relevant experience ( If you apply for two projects include a statement for each project on the same document)
- Degree Certificates and Transcripts of study already completed and if possible transcript to date of study currently being undertaken
- Evidence of English language proficiency, if applicable
- In the reference section please enter the contact details of your two academic referees in the boxes provided or upload letters of reference if already available.
You can apply for a maximum of 2 projects.
For each project you want to be considered for:
- In the Supervisor Section: Enter the Project Supervisor for each project you want to be considered for
- In the Project Title Section: Enter the Project Reference and Project Title for each project in order of priority (e.g. Project 1, Project 2)
