Scholarship Description:
Data science has the potential to positively impact the world in various ways, especially in terms of social welfare. Through data analysis, we can identify and tackle issues like poverty, inequality, and environmental sustainability. For instance, data science can aid in understanding the underlying causes of social problems and devising strategies to address them, such as using crime data analysis to prevent future incidents or analyzing healthcare data to enhance patient outcomes. Additionally, data science enables us to make informed decisions that benefit society, such as optimizing resource allocation or predicting and mitigating the effects of natural disasters.
The Data for Good Scholarship is designed for students who are enthusiastic about the transformative power of data in bringing about positive change and improving the lives of people worldwide.

Fully Funded Data for Good Scholarship (Master) 2023-24, Hertie School, Germany. is available to undertake Masters level programs at Hertie School Germany.

Scholarship Benefits:
Up to five full scholarships worth 36,500 euros each
Eligible Nationalities:
Open to international students of all nationalities.
Eligibility Criteria:
Students who are interested in using data and data science to address societal issues and to promote better informed policy-making are eligible for this scholarship.
Application Procedure:
- First, submit a standard application to the MDS programme.
- Additionally, submit an essay stating one concrete example of how data could be used (or better used) to improve policy-making. Be specific and outline why this case would profit from the (better) use of data, what data you would use, how you would access/gather said data, how you would propose to use the data and what potential challenges you might encounter in doing so.
The additional essay should be sent to grad-admissions[at]hertie-school[dot]org after a standard application has been submitted. The essay should be approximately two pages in length.
Interested applicants should submit their application and essay before 1 May. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview.
